High-Speed Counter Input and Pulse Output Modules added to Productivity3000 Line
Our Productivity3000 programmable automation controller line includes three new modules.
The P3-HSO high-speed output module ($349) supports Pulse/Direction, Up/Down and Quadrature pulse outputs on each of two independent output channels. It has both line driver and open drain outputs and features six general purpose high-speed inputs and four general purpose outputs. The module is fitted with six fault status LEDs, six input LEDs, and eight output status LEDs. Simple move, velocity move, and additional high-level instructions make it easy to implement application motion profiles.
The P3-HSI high-speed input module ($329) has both differential and single ended inputs. This module accepts Pulse/Direction and Quadrature signals on each of the two independent input channels. Equipped with four fault status LEDs, eight input LEDs, and four output status LEDs, it also provides four general purpose high-speed inputs and four general purpose 5-24 VDC 0.5 amp outputs.
The P3-16TD3P DC output module ($151) is a sinking/sourcing protected output module which provides 16 12-24 VDC sinking or sourcing outputs with four internally connected commons. LED indicators signify missing external 24 VDC, open load, over temperature, and over load current conditions.
Modules are UL and CE approved and backed with a two-year warranty.

We've added STEGO enclosure heaters, thermostats, hygrostats and hygrotherms to protect enclosure components against condensation while providing the greatest possible air circulation.
Touch-safe convection heaters are designed to utilize natural convection, resulting in a circulating current of warm air while minimizing surface temperatures on the accessible side surfaces of the housing. The compact, DIN rail-mountable units are available in 12 to 30V AC/DC and 120 to 140V AC/DC models and with heating capacities ranging from 10W to 150W (depending on model). Touch-safe convection heaters start at $24.25.
Fan heaters with an operating voltage range of 100 to 120VAC are available in screw-mount and DIN rail-mountable versions as well as panel-mount and foot-mount models. Designed with high-performance axial fans, the units provide forced air circulation to prevent the formation of condensation and ensure evenly distributed air temperatures. Screw-mount and DIN rail-mount units have heating capacities of 150W to 650W (depending on model) while panel-mount and foot-mount versions have 950W or 1200W heating capacities. Panel-mount and foot-mount models are designed with integrated adjustable thermostats and built-in overheat protection. Fan heater prices start at $86.75.
DIN rail-mountable enclosure thermostats have also been added. Tamperproof styles available in normally-open and normally-closed models feature fixed set points and are available in single and dual versions. Adjustable thermostats available include single units in normally-open and normally-closed models as well as dual units containing one normally-open and one normally-closed thermostat with separate color-coded adjustable temperature controls. Thermostat prices start at $12.
Electronic hygrostats sense relative humidity and activate the enclosure heater at a setpoint to help prevent the formation of condensation within the enclosure. Available in two models (120VAC and 230 VAC), the DIN rail-mountable electronic hygrostats feature adjustable relative humidity setpoints (40% to 90% RH), high switching capacity and a visual function display. Hygrostat prices start at $55.Electronic hygrotherms provide efficient temperature and humidity control. With a temperature setting range of 32℉ to 140℉ and a humidity range of 50% to 90%, the unit is designed with a high switching capacity and optical function display. The hygrotherm senses the ambient temperature and relative air humidity. The unit then turns a connected device either on or off if either the temperature is below or the humidity is above the set point. Hygrotherms are priced at $82.75.
LED lights suitable for panels and enclosures have also been added. Available with either On/Off switch or motion sensor, and in magnet-mount and screw-mount versions, the powerful output allows up to 10 lights to be connected together. LED light prices start at $67.50.

High-speed optical isolators are now available to provide versatility to solve various interface problems between an incremental encoder signal and a PLC, servo drive, or other input devices.
Ideal for use with single-ended or differential line driver encoder signals, the modules feature three complementary inputs rated for 4.5-7.5 and 12-26 VDC and frequency response up to 1 MHz.
The FC-ISO-C high-speed optical isolator module is designed with three complementary open collector outputs rated for 5-36 VDC that can be used in single-ended configurations. Optical isolation rated at 1800V separates the input signals from the outputs. This module can convert a differential line driver encoder signal to an open collector single-ended signal, or change encoder signal voltage to match receiving electronics input.
The FC-ISO-D high-speed optical isolator module is ideal for use with encoders and servo drive encoder signal inputs and outputs. The module features three differential line driver outputs rated for 5VDC, with 1800V optical isolation. The FC-ISO-D module converts single-ended encoder signals to differential line driver signals, or differential line driver encoder signals to single-ended signals. The module can also change encoder signal voltage to match receiving electronics input.
Both modules are designed with a slim-line plastic housing which includes an integral 35mm DIN rail mounting adapter, LED indication, and removable screw terminal blocks for easy installation and wiring. The modules, priced at $89, are UL508 listed and CE marked and are backed with a one-year warranty. Click here for more information.
You can now get high-quality, low-capacitance data cables designed with impedances specific for RS-232/422 and RS-485 communication applications in industrial environments.
The 24 AWG tinned copper conductors are constructed as twisted pairs to reduce electrical noise sensitivity and are available in one, two, or three-pair color coded constructions. Polyethylene conductor insulation provides very high insulation resistance. The rugged gray PVC jacket is durable enough for use in demanding industrial applications.
Protection from radiated or conducted electromagnetic interference is provided by combination shields consisting of an overall foil shield layer with drain wire and a woven braid shield layer. This shield combination offers maximum effectiveness across the frequency spectrum compared to other single layer shielded cables.
Data cables are backed with a one-year warranty and are available in 100-foot coils and 500 or 1,000-foot rolls, with prices starting at $69 for a 100-foot coil. Go here for full details.
PLC training instructor Doug Bell just launched a new continuing education course for programmable logic controllers based on the DirectLOGIC PLC family. Priced at $195, each student is allowed 120 days to complete the course of study. The course includes online study and instruction, as well as quizzes, writing multiple programs (reviewed by the instructor), progress testing and a comprehensive final exam. Upon successful completion, students receive a completion certificate and three continuing education units.
Plus, once enrolled in the course, you also get the opportunity to purchase a DirectLOGIC trainer for $204 (normally $224). Trainers are ideal for practice with while taking the course, as well as to use after course completion.

I recently heard a story on the news about a Texas man and his car. The story sounded a little far-fetched to me, so I decided to research it. According to Foxnews.com, here is what I learned:
Back in 1970, Texas resident Bob Russell was a student at Temple University in Philadelphia. He and his girlfriend had enjoyed only two dates when his 1967 Austin-Healy was stolen. To say Russell was heartbroken would be an understatement. He never stopped searching for his stolen car.
Amazingly, 42 years later, Russell was browsing a well-known online shopping/auction Web site. There it was! His Austin Healy was up for auction in Beverly Hills, California! Learning that the auction closed without reaching the reserve price, he contacted the seller.
The seller said the person he received the car from told him it had been in his family since 1970. Russell said, my Austin Healy was stolen in 1970.
Because he still had the original key and the car's title, he was able to verify the car's VIN number. He did not, however, have the police report for the stolen vehicle. With help from authorities in Philadelphia, he obtained a copy of the report and the file was reopened.
Police officers in Philadelphia worked with the police in Beverly Hills and arranged for the vehicle to be impounded.
Now, Bob Russell and his wife (the same girl he dated when the car was stolen) are reunited with his beloved car.
