Editor's Note

What is with this weather?
I have seen some bizarre weather stories lately. We’ve already seen temperatures over 100 degrees in southern California, and a ton of rain in the south; no, I did not personally weigh it. But, probably the weather event at the top of the list for me is a recent news story out of Minnesota showing ice heaves from Lake Mille Lacs and Lake Bemidji.

These phenomena demonstrate how strong winds push ice off the lakes like glaciers onto shore, causing major damage not only to landscaping, but also to many homes as well. KMSP-TV in Minnesota shares coverage of this strange event on their web site.

Seeing news like this makes one wonder, “What could summer have in store for us?”

This month's newsletter is filled with the latest information, including new product information, schedule, and more. Be sure to take a break with the Lighter Side.

Remember, we are always excited to learn the unique ways customers use AutomationDirect products. Be sure to send us your application stories. If we use your story in our e-newsletter, we will apply a $100 credit to your AutomationDirect account. Application stories we use in print magazines earn a $750 credit. So, don't forget to send us information , about your applications.

Georgia company implements PC-based control

PaperPak is a worldwide industry leading supplier of hygienic absorbent products for the health care and food packaging industries. The tissue machine at the Washington, Georgia facility is over 30 years old, and although it functioned mechanically, the process control system was of an older generation and becoming unreliable. Spare parts were expensive, had long lead times, and caused significant down time.

As the company’s market share grew, and they entered new markets with new products, the need for tighter control of their process to provide the desired absorbency required by these new products also grew. The need to replace their old DCS control system became obvious.

Their system of choice was PC-based control.

Things overheard from a great-nephew…
(taken from my niece-in-law’s Facebook page)

My nephew and his wife live near Savannah, Georgia. Several of her status updates include comments made by her cute little three-year-old son, Timothy.

Here are just a couple:

After a naughty Timothy receives one small pop on his bottom…

Timothy: Mom, it makes God sad when you pop me.
Mommy: Really?
Timothy: Yes. You need to pray to God now about this.
Mommy: (aloud) God, please help Timothy obey his mother.
Timothy: Mom, that’s not the right prayer.

On another occasion…

It’s almost time for bed, and Timothy insists on doing EVERYTHING he can to stay up and play. He resorts to telling jokes:

Timothy: Knock, knock…

Mommy: Sorry, but we are NOT doing knock, knock jokes!

(slight hesitation...)

Timothy: Ding, dong
